Material Precision
For over a century, Noritake has pursued a single vision: to create the ideal white tableware that enhances the beauty of food. This relentless pursuit began with a simple ambition: to craft delicate, beautiful Western tableware in Japan. After 20 years of research and craftsmanship, Noritake introduced Japan’s first white porcelain dinner set in 1914. Building on this expertise, the brand achieved another milestone in 1932 by becoming the first company in Japan to successfully develop bone china. These two material innovations continue to define Noritake’s legacy.
Today, Noritake’s signature materials, White Porcelain and Bone China, represent the perfect balance of aesthetics, strength and technical excellence.
Bone China is created by blending bone ash into the clay body and firing it under carefully controlled oxidative conditions. Renowned for its creamy ivory tone, exceptional translucency and luminous finish, it has long been regarded as the hallmark of premium tableware. Under soft, ambient lighting, its gentle glow creates an atmosphere of warmth and elegance, while its refined texture enhances the artistry of every pattern and design.
White Porcelain, pioneered by Noritake as Japan’s first manufacturer of Western-style hard porcelain dinnerware, is fired at extremely high temperatures using carefully selected raw materials. The result is a material known for its remarkable strength, brilliant whiteness, glossy finish and outstanding translucency. Its crisp, slightly cool white beautifully complements fresh ingredients, making colours appear more vibrant and dishes more visually appealing. The off-white variant offers a softer, warmer character with a subtle milky hue, ideal for brighter interiors where its understated elegance can truly shine.
What unites both materials is Noritake’s unwavering commitment to the perfect white, one that elevates the dining experience rather than competing with it. Every piece is engineered with meticulous attention to the balance between cool and warm tones, the brilliance of its glaze, the delicate translucency achieved through precise material composition and thin forming techniques, and the exceptional durability that allows each piece to remain remarkably thin yet remarkably strong.
This pursuit of material perfection continues through constant research and innovation, ensuring every Noritake creation achieves the ideal harmony of beauty, performance and timeless craftsmanship.
